Mystery Number Skype

On Friday morning we participated in a very exciting math activity. We skyped with a second grade class from Hoover, Alabama. Our skyping session was a Mystery Number Skype. Each class had to guess a three digit number pre-determined by each class. The students from each class took turns asking yes and no questions to figure out the digit in the hundreds, tens, and ones place. They then had to collaborate in their groups to figure out the correct number. This activity incorporated various math skills such as odd and even, greater than and less than, rounding, and place value as well as critical thinking and skills. The students in 2K did very well for their first time with this activity. We can't wait to try this activity again.

100's Day Learning Fun

Fuller Meadow students finally got to celebrate the 100th day of school today. Mrs. Kennedy's Second Grade Super Stars started the day by sharing how they had becomce 100 days smarter in the second grade. Many second graders shared that they are smarter now because they can multiply and divide and they didn't know how to multiply and divide on the first day of school. Another activity we did today was work in teams to do complete some STEM activities using 100 objects. The creativity each group displayed was so unique at each station. We also discussed why it is important to be able to successfully work in a team together to produce one project. This is a life long skill that many adults need to be successful at their jobs. With Mrs. Baker's help, our final activity for the day was making a Chatterpix video . After taking pictures using the Aging Booth app the second graders shared what they will have accomplished when they are 100 years. Please take my advice and do not try this app on yourself! Most of the students were quite amused by what what they might look like 100 years old, however some were not and opted out of this activity. What a fun filled day of learning we had today.

Mrs. Kennedy's Second Grade Super Stars have been busy in math learning the concepts of multiplication and division. The students are so excited that they can multiply. We did several fun hands on activities to practice multiplication skills.

Project Groundhog Kick Off

Mrs. Kennedy's Second Grade Super Stars kicked off Project Groundhog today by watching Punxsatawny Phil crawl out of his burrow and predict an early spring. After watching the famous Pennsylvania groundhog we went outside to see if our very own groundhogs would see their shadows. Guess what? They saw their shadows! Now we need to wait and see if winter will last 6 more weeks. So now we will have to see which groundhog prediction proves to be right over the next 6 weeks. We have connected with classes from Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Kansas, Nevada, and Arizona to compare the weather data we will be collecting. Yesterday we collected data and graphed our predictions for the groundhog. Eleven second graders predicted that the groundhog would  see its shadow today and six second graders predicted the groundhog would not see its shadow. After taking a class vote we named our groundhog mascot Frank. Stay tuned for more updates.

We hope you enjoy our Groundhog Day poem.
